Checking your achievements in Minecraft works differently depending on whether you’re on Java Edition or Bedrock Edition – and most guides online mix the two up, which is why you end up with instructions that don’t match what you’re seeing on screen.

Java Edition vs Bedrock Edition: What’s the Difference?
Before anything else, the terminology matters here:
- Java Edition calls them Advancements, not achievements. They’re found in a separate screen accessed from the pause menu or with a keyboard shortcut
- Bedrock Edition (Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile) calls them Achievements – or Trophies on PlayStation
They’re the same concept but completely separate systems with different counts, categories, and rules. Java has 125 advancements as of June 2026 (with 126 coming in Java Edition 26.2). Bedrock has 132 achievements (135 trophies on PlayStation).
How to Check Achievements in Java Edition (Advancements)
Method 1: Keyboard Shortcut (Fastest)
Press L while in-game. This opens the Advancements screen instantly without going through the pause menu. You can change this keybind in Options > Controls if it conflicts with something else.

- Adventure – Adventure, exploration, and combat (47 advancements). The largest tab – covers combat, trading, structures, biomes, and most of the challenge-tier completionist content
- Husbandry – The world is full of friends and food (30 advancements). Farming, breeding, feeding animals, and discovering every food item
Tabs only appear once you’ve unlocked at least one advancement in them. If you’re brand new and haven’t done anything yet, you’ll see a black screen that says “There doesn’t seem to be anything here… :(“. That’s normal – it disappears once your first advancement triggers.
Advancement Types
Each advancement has a different frame that tells you its difficulty:
- Square frame – Standard advancement. Most of what you’ll complete naturally
- Oval/rounded frame – Goal. More specific challenges, slightly harder
- Star/fancy frame – Challenge. The hard ones usually require specific setups or rare conditions. These reward XP on completion
Hidden Advancements
Nine advancements are hidden and won’t appear in your list until you complete them. You can’t track progress toward them from the screen – they just appear when triggered. The hidden ones are: How Did We Get Here?, Voluntary Exile, Hero of the Village, Arbalistic, You’ve Got a Friend in Me, Smells Interesting, Birthday Song, Little Sniffs, and Planting the Past.
How to Check Achievements in Bedrock Edition
Bedrock Edition tracks achievements at the account level, not per-world. This means achievements you earn in one world count for your entire account – and checking them can be done both in-game and outside of it.
In-Game (All Bedrock Platforms)
- Open the pause menu (press Escape on PC, the Menu button on console, or the pause icon on mobile)

Why Aren’t My Achievements Showing Up?
This is one of the most common Bedrock questions, and the answer almost always comes down to world settings. Achievements are permanently disabled in a world if any of the following were ever active – even if you turned them off afterward:
- Creative mode was enabled at any point
- The world was created as a flat world
- Cheats are turned on (or the world creator gave others operator permissions)
- External behavior packs are activated
- Experimental features are enabled
- The world was created using demo mode
- The world was made from a Marketplace template
There’s no way to re-enable achievements in a world once they’ve been disabled. If you want achievements, you need a new Survival world with none of the above settings active.
On Java Edition, advancements can be granted or revoked using the /advancement command – but if you’re playing normally without commands, they track automatically, and there’s no equivalent “disabled” state.

Do Achievements Carry Over Between Worlds or Platforms?
Bedrock Edition: Achievements are tied to your Microsoft account, not to individual worlds. Earn one in any world, and it counts for your account. However, they do not carry over between platforms – your Xbox achievements and your mobile achievements are tracked separately, even with the same Microsoft account. PlayStation trophies are tied to your PSN account entirely and don’t sync with Xbox.
Java Edition: Advancements are per-world. Each world has its own separate advancement progress. There’s no cross-world tracking.
