A fletching table is cheap to craft and does one important job: it turns a villager into a Fletcher, whose stick trade is one of the best early-game emerald sources in the game. This guide covers the recipe and exactly what a Fletcher offers.
Everything here is confirmed in the current 2026 version of Minecraft (26.3).
Quick answer: craft a fletching table from 2 flint and 4 wooden planks, the two flint across the top and the four planks in a 2×2 square below. Its only real use is as the Fletcher villager’s job site block, so place it next to an unemployed villager to make a Fletcher.
Fletching Table at a Glance
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Ingredients | 2 flint + 4 wooden planks |
| Crafted on | Crafting table |
| Main use | Fletcher villager’s job site block |
| Best trade | Sticks to emeralds (novice) |
Step 1: Gather Flint and Planks
Both materials are early-game easy:
- 2 flint, which drops from mining gravel (roughly 1 in 10 gravel blocks gives a piece).
- 4 wooden planks of any wood type.
Step 2: Craft the Fletching Table

Open a crafting table and place:
- Top row: flint, flint, empty
- Middle row: plank, plank, empty
- Bottom row: plank, plank, empty
So two flint sit across the top and four planks fill a 2×2 square below them. That gives you a fletching table.
Step 3: Make a Fletcher Villager

The fletching table has no crafting or interactive function of its own, it exists purely to create a Fletcher. Place the table next to an unemployed adult villager and it claims the block, showing green particles and a feathered cap. If a nearby villager will not take the job, break the job block of a villager whose profession you do not need and place the fletching table by them instead. See our Minecraft villager jobs guide for how professions work.
Why the Fletcher Is Worth It
The Fletcher looks minor but has one of the strongest early trades in the game:
- Sticks to emeralds (novice): a Fletcher buys 32 sticks for 1 emerald. Sticks are dirt cheap, and a bamboo farm turns them into near-unlimited emeralds. On Bedrock this trade is guaranteed.
- Arrows and gravel/flint at novice level.
- Bow for 2 emeralds at apprentice, and string to emeralds plus a cheap crossbow at journeyman.
- Enchanted bow (7 to 21 emeralds) at expert, and enchanted crossbow plus tipped arrows at master.
For a full emerald strategy, see our best villager trades for emeralds guide, and pair the stick trade with a bamboo farm.

Its only function is being the Fletcher villager’s job site block. You cannot craft anything with it directly, but placing it next to an unemployed villager turns that villager into a Fletcher.
Flint drops from mining gravel, roughly one piece per ten gravel blocks. Dig a bit of gravel and you will have the two flint you need in no time.
Sticks, arrows, and flint at novice, bows and string and crossbows in the middle tiers, and enchanted bows and crossbows plus tipped arrows at expert and master. The standout is 32 sticks for 1 emerald.
Only as a Fletcher job block, but that makes it very worthwhile. The Fletcher’s stick-to-emerald trade is one of the cheapest emerald incomes in the game, especially with a bamboo farm.
Yes. Fletching tables generate in some village buildings, so a villager may already be a Fletcher when you arrive. You can also craft your own to make one anywhere.
The fletching table is cheap and single-purpose, but that one purpose is a great one. Craft it with two flint and four planks, make a Fletcher, and turn a pile of sticks into a steady emerald income.
