Hextech Chests remain a minor, but accessible way to earn Mythic Essence, especially for free-to-play players who frequently earn S-ranks or higher.
- Chance to drop: ~3.6% for 10 Mythic Essence.
- How to get Hextech chests: Earn them by getting S-, S, or S+ grades in matchmade games (1 per champion per season) or buy for 125 RP.
- Keys required: Hextech Chests have to be opened with keys, which can also be crafted through loot or earned through Honor rewards.
Though the drop chance is low, you’ll naturally accumulate and open these over time, making them somewhat of a passive method for collecting Mythic Essence.

? 2. Open Masterwork Chests (If You Still Have Them)
Masterwork Chests offered slightly better loot odds than Hextech Chests, including a small chance at Mythic Essence. However, Riot removed them from the shop in January 2025 as part of the Sanctum overhaul.
- Chance to drop: ~4.2% for 5 Mythic Essence.
- Availability: No longer purchasable or bundled with RP, but still usable if you have leftover Masterwork chests and keys.

The Sanctum is the core Mythic loot system in League of Legends as of 2025. It replaces older systems like Masterwork bundles and Event Prestige Points with a new “gacha-style” format using a currency called Ancient Sparks.
- Cost: Each Sanctum pull costs 400 RP (1 Ancient Spark).
- Drop rates:
- 89.5% chance to get 5 to 100 Mythic Essence.
- ~0.5% chance to get a Mythic Variant Skin (also grants 100 ME).

? 4. Buy Seasonal Battle Passes
The 2025 Battle Pass system replaced old event passes and prestige point grinds with a new seasonal progression model. The current Hall of Legends 2025 Battle Pass gets you a lot of rewards, including a total of 125 Mythic Essence earned throughout the pass.
- Earned rewards: Rather than instant unlocks at purchase, you accumulate Mythic Essence gradually, up to a total of 125 ME, as you progress through pass levels.
- Bonus: Alongside the Mythic Essence, the pass provides Ancient Sparks at different tiers, which can be spent in the Sanctum to potentially earn even more Mythic Essence or Mythic skins.
- Availability: Each season, like Hall of Legends 2025, runs for a set period (ex, June 11 to July 30, 2025). You must buy and progress through the pass during that time to collect all the rewards.
This method offers a steady, gameplay-driven route to Mythic Essence while also feeding into the Sanctum for additional chances. If you’re going after the seasonal or prestige cosmetics, progressing through the pass offers excellent value.

? 5. Open Event Capsules and Grab Bags
While Riot shut down the event token shops, limited-time loot drops from showcases and themed events still offer Mythic Essence through capsule milestones and grab bags.
- Showcase Capsules: Opening 3, 5, 10, or 20 capsules unlocks milestone rewards that include up to 30 Mythic Essence.
- Event Grab Bags: Some bags include a chance to drop 10 ME (e.g., the Fighting Pits 2025 grab bag had a 5.4% chance).
