• 2x sticks
• 1x stone slab
• 2x wooden planks

In total, there are 5 items. You have to place them in the 3×3 crafting grid. To begin with, place 2x sticks in the left and right corners of the top row with the stone slab in between. Then, place the two wooden planks in the left and right corners of the middle row. And there you are! If you have placed all items correctly, a grindstone will appear in the right cell. For sticks, you can use wooden planks. A single wooden plank will yield 2 sticks.

How is Grindstone different than Anvil?

Grindstone and Anvil are often discussed together. Both tools are used to repair other items in Minecraft so they are similar in this regard. But they have some key differences which you must know to utilize them effectively. Here is a quick overview:

1. Grindstone can disenchant the already enchanted items while anvil can not. You can use Anvil to place enchantments on different items.  You can even combine enchantments using it. However, there is one exception for Grindstone. It can not remove enchantments from cursed items. For that, you have to find another way.  

2. The anvil degrades as you use it more and more. Typically, you can use an Anvil 25 times before it breaks down. However, a Grindstone never degrades and you can use it as much as you want.

3. Although both of them can repair tools, there is a difference in how they do it. Repairing with an Anvil costs you experience points while Grindstone does not. In fact, you can earn XP by removing enchantments with Grindstone.
