A character from Dead by Daylight wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket holds up a purple perk icon featuring a figure riding a motorcycle, symbolizing the Background Player perk. The background is dark with a red light illuminating the scene, giving it a dramatic and intense atmosphere.

About a year ago, the Breakout perk received a significant buff that wasn’t widely discussed. Making it a stronger option in the current meta of Dead by Daylight. Previously, if you were within six meters of a carried Survivor, you would gain a seven percent haste, and the carried survivor would wiggle off 20% faster. However, since then, this has been increased to 25%, which will make a huge difference. This DBD post covers two Breakout build variations designed to frustrate killers.

Best Breakout Build 2024

A Dead by Daylight perk loadout featuring the perks: Background Player, Saboteur, Empathy, and Breakout. The Background Player perk shows a motorcycle, Saboteur features a broken hook, Empathy displays a healing hand, and Breakout has an icon of a person breaking chains. The loadout is labeled "Best Breakout Build 2024."

The Best Breakout build is all about hovering near the Killer when a survivor is downed. Maximizing their chances of wiggling free. While also providing backup if they can’t escape through wiggling.

  • Breakout (Yui Kimura): Increases the wiggle speed of carried survivors within 5 meters by 25% and grants you a 7% Haste status effect.
  • Saboteur (Jake Park): Allows you to sabotage hooks without a toolbox. It also shows the auras of hooks when the Killer picks up a Survivor.
  • Empathy (Claudette Morel): This perk reveals the auras of injured Survivors within a range of up to 128 meters. Allowing you to find and assist them in resetting and healing, ideally with a medkit.
  • Background Player (Renato Lyra): After a Survivor is downed and getting picked up, get a 50% haste for 5 seconds. Allowing you to reach the Killer and trigger Breakout more easily.

The best breakout build shines when it comes to saving teammates in important situations. Hovering close to the Killer with Breakout boosts your teammate’s chances of wiggling free. If the Killer gets too close to a hook, you can tank a hit and sabotage it with Saboteur, securing the save. Empathy helps you find and heal injured survivors for resets. Background Player lets you quickly close the distance to downed survivors, making Breakout even more effective.

Survivor Saving Build

A Dead by Daylight perk loadout showcasing the perks: Background Player, Breakout, Light-footed, and Saboteur. The Background Player perk shows a motorcycle, Breakout features a person breaking chains, Light-footed displays a foot stepping lightly, and Saboteur has an icon of a broken hook. The loadout is labeled "Survivor Saving Build."

The idea for this build involving breakout is to get as many saves for our teammates as possible.

  • Breakout: Follow the Killer carrying a Survivor to a hook using Breakout to increase their wiggle speed by 25% and increase our speed by 7%.
  • Background Player: Whenever a Survivor gets picked up, we get a big speed boost to jump in front of the Killer and blind them to save our teammate.
  • Light-footed: Paired Breakout with Light-footed, which makes our footsteps completely silent. The Killer will have no idea that we’re right behind the Survivors, giving them boosts.
  • Saboteur: We can also take hits or run to a hook and try to sabotage it, possibly saving a teammate before death hook.

The goal of this build is to maximize our ability to save other survivors. We plan to achieve this by using our flashlight and Background Player. When a Survivor is picked up by the Killer, we will receive a significant speed boost. Allowing us to quickly position ourselves in front of the Killer and use our flashlight to blind them, thereby saving our teammate. Breakout and lightweight will make it so we give the picked up survivor wiggle speed without the killer even noticing.

If you enjoy this type of build, my suggestion is for you to check out our flashlight build or the sabotage build!
